Jesus: The Four Witnesses

A distinguished team is now working on the development of The Four Witnesses into a four-part PBS docudrama: the author Robin Griffith-Jones; the acclaimed film-maker David Kennard; and South Carolina’s PBS station, South Carolina Educational TV.

The docudrama sets out to tell the stories of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John as sharply diverging yet inter-linked accounts which offer a depth and perspective that no single presentation could match.

The filmmakers recreate the four "takes" offered by our storytellers: Working with the evidence before them, their faith within them and the conflicts, dangers and doubts of their own times around them, the gospels' writers reveal the needs and purposes that inform their testimony. We see the way they tell their story - and why they tell it as they do.

The actor Jeremy Irons has offered to play the role of Everyman: neither an expert nor an evident believer but a questioner and guide who frames the extraordinary stories of the evangelists themselves.

About the Narrator:
Actor Jeremy Irons

Jeremy Irons has appeared in everything from Shakespeare to Lolita. His theater career began with the role of John the Baptist in the hit 1970's musical Godspell. A leading role in the BBC's Brideshead Revisited later led to a steady film career. Irons has won the Oscar for Best Actor (Reversal of Fortune) and the New York Critics Best Actor Award (Dead Ringers).

Support the Production

This lean, sparse production has a remarkably modest budget of $2 million for the entire four-part series, plus the fees associated to present and promote the project on the PBS network. The filmmakers are currently raising funds to make this production possible. If you would like to contribute to the funding (and all contributions will be tax-deductible), please contact David Kennard via email at Independent Communications Associates.
